That's a good question. Until I started this blog and began networking with other bloggers, I was clueless about what an RSS feeder was. I would visit blogs and websites and see this peculiar little orange icon and links saying "subscribe to my feed"...or "subscribe in a reader". So, I started doing my homework.... and now I use RSS feed ALL the time!
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It's basically a live feed that you subscribe to when you want to keep up to speed with your favorite websites or blog. You're basically signing up to get the latest headlines from that particular site. Oh sure, you could bookmark that site if you wanted to revisit it...but how many of us do that and then sort of forget about it? The beauty of subscribing to a feed is that you can visit your feeds page and see right away if there's been new posts or updates on that site....really, why visit a website only to find that nothing has changed since the last time you visited? When you subscribe to a feed, you can tell instantly if there have been updates because that site you're now tracking will be marked in bold...if it's not in bold, there hasn't been any new posts since the last time you visited. Now, how great is that?
So, how do you get an RSS feeder? Just like browsers, there are many RSS feeders to choose from, most of which are free. It's really a matter of personal preference. Most websites/blogs advertise their feeds with the popular orange icon, just like you see in my banner at the top of this site, right below the Google searchbar. When you click on those orange RSS feeder icons, you will see just how many RSS readers are available for you to choose from! Pick one and you'll be good to go to start receiving feeds from all of your favorite sites.
